Please note that from 1st April 2021 the National Minimum wage is £4.30 per hour for an apprentice. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National minimum wage appropriate for their age applies. The minimum wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job and time spent training.

What will I study?
Apprentices would typically be based at a garage location; however this can vary from garage to garage depending on the business. As an apprentice you will develop an understanding of health and safety within the workplace. You will learn to work to strict deadlines and work closely with others within a team. As you develop your repair knowledge you will increase your skills and performance and become a valuable team member.
An Autocare Technician carries out a range of services and repairs to cars, car derived vans and light goods vehicles, working in an ‘Autocare’ or ‘Fast-Fit’ Centre. An Autocare Technician requires a unique combination of technical, retail and customer service skills. They will use a range of tools, measuring and diagnostic equipment to identify and repair simple system faults.
Apprentices attend College on day release for the duration of the two years and train/work with the employer for the remainder of the week. At College they will attain the knowledge required to complete the apprenticeship and the work-based assessor will visit the workplace to carry out reviews and practical observations in conjunction with the employer training.
You must be competent and have covered all the criteria to be deemed ready for End-Point Assessment (EPA), and achieve passes in all relevant Functional Skills qualifications. The EPA components include:
